Sandy Toes and the Beach Pose

Let’s admit it. Some people have supermodel looks and perfect figures. They can’t take a bad photo, even with wet hair and no make-up. I am not one of those people. Which makes beach photos so tricky.

What I have learned is that beach photos should not be treated any different than other travel pics. Most of my travel photos start with me having fun—singing, dancing, being a bit goofy or being active. I’m being myself. And guess what?  Those actions also set the stage for great beach photos.

I happen to be lucky that my mom is always taking photos, and my dad and younger brothers are super fun. They are my most frequent travel companions (although not always all at once) so they keep things light. I know I’m not a supermodel so I refuse to take beach shots too seriously!

And if I’m feeling bloated or my tan is uneven, a pair of jean shorts or a flowy skirt saves the day every time!

I’m also careful to make sure I’m capturing the right moment.

If it’s about a gorgeous sunset or a stunning pool, that should be the star of the photo.

And if I’m doing something active like surfing, jet skiing, parasailing or going for a run on the beach, I don’t care if my hair is perfect or my swimsuit matches. It’s all about enjoying the experience!

And sometimes you can sneak in a beach pose during a break from work. Love my summer job as a lifeguard!

And don’t forget the sunglasses and fun headwear. They can be a great tool for adding glamour to a photo.

Just be confident and have fun—no matter the setting!
