I only travel with one backpack. It’s a 32L Paxat Backpack from Patagonia that I picked up at Tyler’s. I actually own two of them—both in fun colors (khaki/orange and navy/lime). The backpack holds everything I need!
Here is my basic packing list for a 1-week trip:
Shoes (1 pair of flip flops;1 pair of comfortable fashion sneakers in a fun color;1 fabulous pair of neutral-colored boots or wedge sandals, depending on the weather)
Bottoms (one pair of colorful or patterned pants/joggers; one pair of jeans; one pair of denim shorts; two flowy skirts)
Tops (a collection of tanks, tees and long-sleeved button downs that will mix and match with my color palette)
Dresses (1-2 maxi dresses, great for dramatic photos and practical for countries with modest dress codes)
Outerwear (neutral cardigan; stylish coat or blazer—usually denim, suede or leather)
Accessories (several bold scarves and bandanas; loads of layering bracelets and necklaces; stackable rings; a statement belt)
Along with these items, I pack the basics...undergarments, bathing suits, international power converter, makeup, toiletries, etc. Everything else goes in my mini backpack.
Another essential for longer trips is pocket laundry wash from REI. I use it to keep my sandy swimwear looking fresh throughout the trip.
It’s really all about the accessories! I do my research ahead of time and choose a color palette (see my blog post about a pop of color). This is all I need to be comfortable and chic at all times!
